Wall Sconces¹²

Wall sconces put light at eye level, which is where rooms feel most comfortable in the evening. A pair on either side of a bed, a mirror or a doorway gives soft, even light without the glare of an overhead fixture, and a single sconce can turn a dark stretch of hallway into somewhere you want to pause.

Choose by the shade: opal and frosted glass glows gently in every direction, a slim linear bar or an up-and-down light washes the wall, and a directional head puts light where you read. As a guide, sconces are usually mounted around 60 to 66 inches from the floor, a little lower beside a bed.
