Kinu Semi Flush Mount Light – 11 in Cream Opal Glass Dome, Retro Mid-Century Style, Semi-Flush or Pendant

Kinu, the Japanese word for silk, is a soft, rounded dome of cream opal glass, 11 in across and only 3.9 in deep, with an open rim so a round bulb sits half-visible beneath it. Lit, the whole shade takes on a warm ivory glow, like lamplight through silk, while the bulb sends light straight down into the room.

Choose how it hangs. The Semi-Flush Mount sits close to the ceiling on a short brass-tone stem and canopy, made for a hallway, entry, bedroom or closet where a pendant would be in the way. The Pendant hangs from a thin clear cable with a chrome-tone cap: set the drop for a bedside, a small dining table, or a row of two or three over a kitchen counter. The rounded mid-century form sits easily with plaster, oak and pale stone.

• Bulb: one E27 socket (standard US E26 bulbs generally fit); bulb not included. A frosted globe bulb, as in the photos, looks best where it shows below the rim, and the light colour is set by the bulb you choose
• Coverage: the maker suggests it for spaces of about 32–54 sq ft, such as a hallway, entry, closet or bedside
• Materials: opal glass shade with iron fittings
• Voltage: 90–260V AC, suitable for standard US 120V wiring; hardwired to a ceiling junction box and switched from your wall switch

Installation and care: Have a qualified electrician connect it to a ceiling junction box. With the power off and the glass cool, wipe the shade inside and out with a soft, damp cloth.
