Lykta is a plain box lantern: a slim black frame with a flat top, four clear glass panels and a brass-toned socket holding the bulb in the middle where you can see it. At dusk the bulb glows warm inside the glass and lays a soft wash of light down the wall, whether it is stucco, brick or timber.
Its straight lines suit modern, farmhouse and traditional houses alike. Hang one or a pair beside a front door, a garage, a garden gate or along a balcony or terrace. The 11.8 in Small suits a standard entry door; the 14.8 in Large holds its own on a wider facade or beside a double door.
