About This Light
Suiboku is a slender column of natural stone, white with drifts of grey-black veining that look like ink brushed into wet paper. Switched on, the whole cylinder glows from within: the pale stone turns a soft, luminous ivory and the dark veins stand out like a painting. Light also escapes from the open top and bottom, washing a little way up and down the wall.
It is a quiet, narrow piece, about a hand span and a half tall, made for places where a wide sconce would crowd the wall: beside a bed, next to a doorway, along a hallway or either side of a mirror. Hung in pairs, it gives a bedroom or a long corridor a calm, even rhythm. Because the stone is natural, the veining differs from one piece to the next.
